History

Mk 1 – Developed from a brain spark by Tony Perrett during 2015.

The rough and ready prototype made in our workshop still works today. It was drilled out and used off the shelf bolts. The proof of concept was so successful that our other fencing teams wanted it on their post knockers too.

Our biggest advantage when developing these plates have been the feedback from our team – all plates below have at least ran for 500hrs knocking

Mk2 2016-17

Taught as a lot about optimum pin spacing, length and weight!

Mk3 2017-18

Taught us a lot more about plate and pin material.

Mk4 2018-19

Now were getting there – we’ve found a really good engineering company near us and have started making our own pins – equivalent to our own ‘special sauce’

Mk5 2019-21

Slight refinement of pin location and bore, now features integration of slip round finger guard tested.

Successfully hear that we have been granted our UK patent for use of retractable pins.

These plates are thoroughly tested on our machines and given to other local contractors to try – results are all looking promising.

Mk 6 2021-

We finally feel confident to release for sale our Perrett Post Plate to the world.

We believe there is no stronger, better designed plate out there – that’s why we put our name on it.

We look forward to seeing these make fencing contractors lives easier and helping to make fencing timber last longer too.

All our made to order with two models available so can fit any machine. We’ve used ours on Protech, Bryce and Wrag post knockers.

FAQ

Is the plate warranted?

Yes we have built the plates strong and tested them over 1000hrs. Therefore we will warrant the plate against breaking or major malfunction for the 1st year providing it’s used as intended. The wearing parts of pins, guard, rubber matt and rope are not covered – but are cheaply available through us.

Will pins break or bend?

Under normal use with timber it is rare to bend or break pins, however it does happen especially with using rock spikes on hard ground. We include 20 spare pins to replace any that may break/bend. We usually service our plate around 500hrs with the machine and replace any then.

Can it knock in gate posts?

Yes all sizes of posts fit under the plate up to a max of 300x300mm on the standard and 330x380mm on the heavy weight. It cannot however protect the top of a pointed post – however we do knock them in this way which does flatten the tip a little but no other damage is usually sustained.

Will it fit my machine, and will my machine lift it?

Yes we machine the plates to order so we can definitely get one to fit your machine. We have tried the plates on most of the major UK manufacturers and all lift them well. It is always important to use good lubricant we recommend chainsaw oil to ensure no binding that all plates can have.

Can I use it on my rockspike?

Yes – one of our first tests was to check this was possible on the Mk1. We found we damaged the pins if the rock spike protector (plastic bit on top) was not in good order when using on hard ground. Therefore please ensure this is in good order. Our new pins are twice as strong as our Mk1 so not such an issue if well looked after.

Can I still use my auger underneath

We hope so – when ordering your plate let us see what brackets you have – more than likely we can match these and include them in the design for a small additional charge.
